The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) finalized a landmark rule under HIPAA Administrative Simplification that establishes national standards for electronic health care claims attachments and electronic signatures, enabling secure, efficient exchange of clinical documentation such as medical records, imaging, and lab results.

By replacing outdated manual processes, the rule reduces administrative burden, enhances data security, streamlines workflows, and accelerates claims processing, ultimately improving both provider efficiency and patient care.
